Belvedere Gardens is a mixed-use development located in Waterloo, providing 98 apartments within two towers. Ground floor retail units and a considered landscaping strategy help to increase variety and activity within the immediate urban area, with vibrant, public-facing active frontages. With 31 apartments in the 11-storey block and 67 apartments in the 21-storey block, Belvedere Gardens addresses the existing urban condition. The design approach ensures that the 28-storey Shell Tower building completed in 1962 retains visual prominence. In addition to strengthening overall visual coherence across the wider 5.25ha masterplan, GRID’s design improves upon the formerly impermeable urban grain. Landscaping within the ground floor of the buildings bleeds out into the public realm to the east, with high-quality soft and hard landscaping, alongside avenues of trees and water features.
