Mae Architects
Designed by Mæ, the Sands End Arts and Community Centre creates space for the community to come together; providing a café, areas for group activities, clubs, events, and a nursery thereby promoting social integration. In its relationship to South Park, the scheme revitalises a key local destination and forms a gateway to the park. Sustainability is central to the design, which utilises innovative materials and low carbon technologies. The walls of the building are made from WasteBasedBricks, which are made by supplier StoneCycling using construction waste that might otherwise end up in landfill. Mae worked with the company to develop a variation on the Nougat colour, allowing it to more closely resemble natural stone.
